Come Home
03:45
|
|
||
The stones are breathing as the dawn it breaks across the land
I dreamed a light was giving life, i held it in my hand
And there will come a time when the wandering will end
Hear the whisper on the wind, the land is crying out...
Come home
Winters coat of white is missing on this distant line
Instead a dusty body bag weakens the vital signs
But there will come a time when the wandering will end
A voice is getting louder and the land is crying out...
Come home
The stones are quiet
As the sun it sets across the land
I dreamed a light was giving life
But it slipped through my hands
A mist is forming
And the air is growing cold and still
The tethers tighten all too quick
Yet the land still cries out...
Come home

Sail Away
04:20
|
|
||
The ways of this place may seem strange to you
Now that you’re out of the crowd
In time, you’ll cease to be in the sense that you know
But onwards will you go
And you know one day you will have to betray
All the things that you hold dear, as you hide your dismay
So sail away...
Breathe a mighty breath, have you worked it all out
Are you left in no doubt?
Then hold your tongue, or you’ll lose your mind
As your spirit resigns
Cos you know one day you will have to betray
All the things that you hold dear, as you hide your dismay
So sail away...
So smile, don’t look surprised, as the words they compound
All the things they expound
And leave it all behind, say goodbye to your fears
Be your own mutineer
Cos you know one day you will have to betray
All the things that you hold dear as you hide your dismay
So sail away...

The Ballad of John Green
03:05
|
|
||
Three men came riding from the west with darkness in their eyes
Looking for a man they called John Green, for he must die
They shot him down and buried him with earth upon his head
Standing on his grave, they knew that Johnny Green was dead
They lingered by his grave until the rain began to fall
Then John Green’s head appeared, because he was not dead at all
He lay there ‘til the summer sun had nothing more to say
Standing straight and tall, he knew that this was John Green’s day
They hired men with knives that cut him down upon his knees
Kicked him to the floor, they tied him up, he couldn’t flee
“This time we’ll do it proper boy and this is just a start”
But Johnny Green was laughing when they shot him through the heart
Sharpening their blades, they tore the flesh right off the bone
Just to be quite sure, they ground him up between two stones
When the sun is here again, you know he’ll rise on up
For John Green’s soul it washed into the earth will all of his blood

The Soldier Song
05:14
|
|
||
He stepped into line, marching in time to the drums
Tightened his pack that he stole from a Frenchman who ran
Fights through the pain of the hole in his boot
And the memories of the friends he will no more salute
He's in way over his head
He shoulders his rifle and buttons what's left of his coat
Curses the stock, as it tears at his throat
Cries from the pain of a wound in his chest
And the dreams that he's lost and the family he left
He's in way over his head
He gets to his feet and he empties his canteen of rum
Steps back into line and marches to the drums
Still fighting the pain from the holes in his boots
Dreaming of friends he can no more salute
And the touch of the girls working all through the night
Where he'd spend all his pay, when there's no one left to fight
He's worn to exhaustion and covered in dust
Facing a flogging if he doesn't keep up
And there's no one to help and there's no one who cares
He's miles from nowhere he's gonna die there
He's in way over his head

The Sickness
02:47
|
|
||
As above, so below
Vast spaces stretch inside you know
And I think you caught the sickness
When the ghosts they got to you
I'm sure you brought it on yourself
Your penance overdue
The centre I cannot find
Is known to my unconscious mind
But I think I caught the sickness
When the ghosts they got to you
I know we brought it on ourselves
Our penance overdue
And be sure your sin will find you in the end
Time steals on and steals
And the waves are crashing 'round our heels
But I know we caught the sickness
It's our penance overdue
There won't be anyone to help
The ghosts they spoke the truth
And be sure your sin will find you in the end

The Loch Ard
04:26
|
|
||
Built up in Glasgow in '73
The Loch Ard was as graceful a ship you could see
A three-masted clipper, reckoned one of the best
By the Captain and crew who were boarding
They set sail from England March '78
They were bound for to Melbourne, that was not their fate
In June they bore down on the Cape Otway coast
But the fog had rolled in without warning
The ship hit a reef and the rigging crashed down
Near Mutton Bird Island Loch Ard ran aground
The masts they killed many, the sea got the rest
Death was out early that morning
Of fifty four passengers, two souls survived
Made it out of the depths barely alive
Eva Carmichael she clung to a spar
Five hours or more she spent calling
Tom Pearce was a crewman, he made it ashore
Heard Eva's cries and stole her from death's door
She collapsed from exhaustion, Tom ran for help
Because death was out early that morning
She lay on the sand, shivering cold
Waiting for darkness, the end to unfold
Numb from the shock of the morning's events
Wondering what did she do to deserve this?
Then Tom he returned and Eva was saved
But all of her family saw watery graves
Sitting together they silently prayed
Thanks to death that he spared them that morning

Everything is Everything
02:34
|
|
||
He wandered onwards, never looking back
Amid forgotten waymarks, upon the old straight track
To where she waited, waited for all time
Where the light shone for him, where the world was left behind
She said
"We're just what we think we are, all that arises with your thoughts appears
Everything is everything and on and on the song will sing"
And as he acted, so did he become
Dreaming to some purpose, glowing brighter than the sun
Travelling so lightly, now that he could read her
Amid forgotten waymarks, like the last of the great dreamers
He said
"I'm just what I think I am, all that's arisen in my thoughts appeared
Everything is everything and on and on the song does sing"
Now all he touches turns to matter in his hands
Flames above the fields, above the beauty of the land
He travelled onwards, following the line
Amid forgotten waymarks, as he left the world behind
Crying
"Everything is everything and on and on the song does sing"

Well I drove through the night, just me and the dogs
The darkness compounding the rain and the fog
Trapped in a nightmare we couldn't contrive
The heavens they opened, the tempest arrived
Like the falling of a thunderstone
We thought we had made it to our journey's end
But the hospital was empty, so we set out again
Back into the dark and the rain we did drive
The heavens had opened, the tempest had arrived
Like the falling of a thunderstone
As soon as I walked through the door I could tell
The faces around me did nothing to dispel
All the fear in my heart as my hopes turned to dust
Things are as they are and will end as they must
Like the falling of a thunderstone
Well the road winds uphill all the way to the top
Like a runaway train this just could not be stopped
Trapped in a nightmare we couldn't contrive
When the heavens they opened and the tempest arrived
Like the falling of a thunderstone

Stormclouds
03:01
|
|
||
Bitter and changeable, tossed up and down
Sorely in need of a rest
Struck by the force of the hand he's been dealt
Unsure what to do for the best
And he said "Take me as you find me
And you'll not get a thing more from me
I've lived through the war and I've lived on the sea
And I've broken the backs of the demons I fleed
But there's nothing in life 'twas more precious to me
Than the girl I loved so cruelly taken from me
All those long years ago when we tried not to see
That the storm clouds had gathered, it was going to be
A land red with blood as the power gave out
But it's too late to change things, of that there's no doubt"
So he puts down the hand he's been dealt
And retires from playing

Hold me close and insulate me from the cold
Encapsulate me in your arms
The devil's dead, eradicated
The evil gone, evaporated
Buried deep but nothing ever sinks without a trace
The trees remembered history
Unveiled a legend's mystery
We thought was lost forever
For seven years the winter gripped
A sacred land concealed by mist
Hidden well, but nothing ever sinks without a trace
We don't need anyone to explain it
Your real world is a fake, believe it
We'll watch it all capitulate
We'll hear the sound reverberate
You run but you can't hide and you won't sink without a trace
A trumpet blasts in heaven's oceans
Another myth it's set in motion
Burning bright 'cos nothing ever sinks without a trace
